CCEMP successfully hosted its 2025 Annual Appreciation Luncheon in Toronto, themed Connecting Paths - Creating Futures. This event not only celebrated the organization's achievements but also aimed to foster a collaborative future for Chinese engineers in Canada.
President Shuyang Wang opened the luncheon with an inspiring speech, followed by an introduction to CCEMP by hosts Lan Yao and Oliver. Established in 2017, CCEMP is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting Chinese engineers through community service, knowledge sharing, and career development. With a membership of over 600, CCEMP organized various activities in 2024, including two team-building events and four professional seminars, which encouraged collaboration and explored industry trends. The organization also enhanced its online presence, improving content quality and member engagement.
Keynote Speakers
A significant highlight of the luncheon was the keynote speeches delivered by two distinguished guests:
- Dr. Chih C. Chao, former Vice President of Tunghai University and head of Cantech Environmental Service, and
- Dr. Ted Mao, Chief Technology Officer of Evercloak Inc., and a global leader in water technology innovation.
Dr. Chih C. Chao emphasized the importance of interdisciplinary thinking in addressing environmental challenges. He delved into the profound impacts of climate change and the urgent need for decarbonization. Drawing from his extensive practical experience, Dr. Chao presented innovative approaches and real-world examples of circular economy practices in resource recovery and reuse. His insightful and forward-thinking presentation inspired attendees with actionable guidance for advancing sustainability initiatives.
Dr. Ted Mao shared his career journey and offered valuable advice to young engineers with advanced education. He emphasized the importance of fostering collaboration, integrating into local communities, and expanding professional networks to elevate the career potential of Chinese engineers. Drawing from his expertise in water technology innovation and experience with technology startups, Dr. Mao highlighted the value of bridging academia and industry. He urged Chinese professionals to take on greater responsibilities in broader societal and professional contexts. His vivid and sincere speech motivated attendees, pointing to new directions for career growth and sparking reflections on personal development and societal contributions.
Roundtable Discussions
The event featured two engaging roundtable discussions:
Life in Canada: I Got a Story to Tell – Participants shared personal experiences and strategies for overcoming challenges faced in Canada.
Mentorship: Let’s Thrive Together – This discussion focused on establishing effective mentorships to promote personal and professional growth.
The luncheon concluded with a free connection session that allowed participants to engage in meaningful conversations in a relaxed atmosphere, leaving them with a sense of fulfillment and strengthened connections.
